Touch & Social

The Deep Roots Tournament Is Free to Watch Saturday

Georgia College's women host their annual the Deep Roots Tournament from 9:45 AM on Saturday, October 17 with a Macon Love and alumni motley side in the pool, Sunday touch in Atlanta ran at noon at Adair Park, and the Exiles say their social membership is at an all-time high

Georgia College's women posted the flyer on Saturday, October 10: "Deep Roots is approaching," their annual fifteens tournament on IM Field 4 at 120 West Campus Drive in Milledgeville on Saturday, October 17, free attendance, with T-shirt sales going to the club's charity. The times are posted too: Georgia College against Mississippi State at 9:45 AM, Mississippi State against a Macon Love and alumni motley side at 10:10, Georgia College against the motley at 11:05 and a round robin from 11:35. Macon Love's own site lists the day as 11 AM to 4 PM, and the men's side of the tournament sits on the schedules of Georgia College, North Georgia and the Exiles without posted times. If you have never watched rugby, a Saturday morning in Milledgeville with a motley side in it is the gentlest way in.

Atlanta's Sunday touch session is alive. The Atlanta Touch Rugby group's officers posted on Sunday morning, October 11, "touch rugby is happening at 12 today at Adair Park." Players told the Radar earlier this month that the session usually runs from 2 to 4 PM at Fair Oaks Park in Marietta and that the park can change, so check the public Atlanta Touch Rugby Facebook group on the morning before you go. Athens' Wednesday touch at Rocket Field in Watkinsville sits on the club's site as a standing line with no dated post, and goes on the calendar the week the club posts one.

The Exiles ran their car show with Fuel Coffee Roasters in Alpharetta on Sunday, October 11, "despite a rather misty start to the morning," with raffle winners drawn and a spring repeat promised. The next day the club posted its membership chart, 58 days into the club year: players just over half, social and supporter members just under forty percent, and "social membership has reached an all-time high, while player membership is at its highest level since 2022." Social membership is $70 a year, per the club. The Exiles' Thursday social runs after training at Olde Blind Dog.

The Augusta Furies' professional-attire clothing drive is Monday, October 26 from 6 to 9 PM at Savannah River Brewing Company, and the Augusta Maddogs' Thursday practice at the Augusta Rugby Pitch ends at the same brewery. The Atlanta Renegades posted their training reel on Monday, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 PM at Peachtree Middle School in Dunwoody, and the Atlanta Harlequins' fifteens practice runs Tuesdays and Thursdays at English Park through Thursday, November 5. UGA's women are collecting for the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia through Saturday, October 31 in their annual Hunger Bowl, and UGA's men ask the crowd at their Saturday, October 24 home match against Kennesaw State to bring canned goods. Every session with a dated club post is on the calendar; a bio line alone is not.
