Women's Clubs

The Atlanta Harlequins have turned their next home date into an event. On Saturday, October 3 at 4 PM at Mozley Park Recreation Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, the Harlequins host Boston Women's+ Rugby, and the club is running the day as Alumni Day plus a Tackle-A-Thon fundraiser, with supporters pledging per tackle. "We hit @bostonwomensrfc very, very hard," the club promised, which is exactly the right way to sell a fundraiser built on defense.

It caps an opening month of firsts for the state's senior women. The Harlequins brought matrix rugby to Browns Mill Park on September 19 against the DC Furies; the visitors took the opener 49-17, per the referee society's official record, in a game neither club has scored publicly. In Savannah, the Shamrocks women played their first matrix match on September 26, falling 26-5 to the Charleston Hurricanes at Daffin Park with a full summer of building behind them.

The rest of the women's fall is filling in. The Women of Old White posted their full XVs schedule, with trips to High Country on October 3 and the Columbia Bombshells on October 17, and their November 7 date resolves into one event: the Augusta Furies host a round robin at the Augusta pitch that day, with Women of Old White and the Gaston County Hell Hounds traveling in, per the referee assignment sheet reconciling both clubs' graphics. Atlanta 2.0 Selects host Birmingham Steel at the Atlanta Rugby Grounds on October 17. And a loose end from the openers is now tied: the Furies' September 19 win at Savannah, which neither club scored publicly, went 81-15, per the referee society's official record.

Want in rather than in the stands? The Harlequins practice Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8 to 10 PM at English Park through November 5, and every club above takes new players year-round. The directory has every door.
