The 9,455-Point Derby
Old White Take the Neighbors' Derby 84-10, the Shamrocks Open With Fifty, and a Rescheduled Date Lands at English Park
The senior men's weekend belonged to the clubs that got to play. Atlanta Old White's D3 side hosted Exiles RFC at the Atlanta Rugby Grounds on Saturday, September 26 and won the neighbors' derby 84-10, per the referee society's official record. The Exiles took it the way good clubs take a long afternoon: "As for the score in the graphic we stopped counting somewhere along the way, so 9,455 feels about right," they posted, under a full-time graphic reading exactly that. Old White's D1 trip to Southern Pines the same day was canceled by the hosts due to deployment, per the referee society's record, and comes off the weekend's slate.
In Savannah, the Shamrocks men opened their season with a 50-7 win over Hilton Head Island at Daffin Park, the first leg of the club's home doubleheader.
Elsewhere the weekend thinned out. The Renegades' home match with Augusta was called off, "Augusta was not able to make the match this weekend," per the Renegades, with a make-up promised for next month. And the Gwinnett Lions' trip to the Atlanta Bucks moved a week: per the Lions, the match now kicks off Saturday, October 3 at 3 PM at English Park in Atlanta. Gainesville's October 3 trip to the Renegades is also postponed with a new date to come, per the Spartans.
October 3's headline act is a doubleheader at Grant Park: High Country host Old White, with kickoffs at 2 PM for the men and 4 PM for the women, per High Country's posts, and Old White's site agreeing on the venue. The full slate, including Kennesaw State hosting South Carolina at The Perch, is on the calendar.
