Every September conversation about growing rugby in Georgia ends the same way: someone has to actually walk onto a pitch for the first time. This is the month the clubs make that easy. Atlanta High Country drew a crowd of first-timers to a Rugby 101 day at Historic Fourth Ward Park on Saturday, August 29, and the standing invitations are everywhere: Old White trains all experience levels Mondays and Wednesdays at Custer Park in Marietta, the Gwinnett Lions run open sevens for men and women Thursdays at 6 PM and Saturdays at 2 PM at Tribble Mill Park in Lawrenceville, the Athens Eagles train Sundays and Tuesdays at Southeast Clarke Park, and the Augusta Maddogs go Tuesdays and Thursdays. Not one of them holds tryouts.

The doors are not just for the seniors. Kennesaw State's first practice of the year is Tuesday, September 1 for college students. Rebels Rugby GA runs a no-cuts fall for kindergarten through high school with USA Rugby registration open now. Exiles high school girls play a whole season for fifty dollars, Tuesdays and Thursdays in Alpharetta, no experience required. And down in Macon, Wesleyan College is recruiting the founding class of a women's varsity program. Every session above is on the calendar with days, times, and places. Pick a pitch. They'll teach you the rest.
